C&C Training welcomed a very special guest during the summer when MP for South West Bedfordshire Andrew Selous visited.
C&C Training’s head office in Grovebury Road, Leighton Buzzard, had moved to bigger premises in Ridgeway Court, and invited Mr Selous, as well as local businesses, to attend a grand opening of their new training centre & Head Quarters comprising two training rooms and larger offices.
The company has expanded due to popular demand for its high quality training and facilities which has seen staff numbers almost double in the last year.
Customers from far afield as Nottingham and Cambridge paid a visit along with representatives from Leighton Buzzard companies.
MP Andrew Selous is well known for his interest in local businesses and said he was delighted to have been invited – fitting C&C into his busy schedule as he has just taken on the Government role as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Justice. He said: “It is fantastic that a Leighton Buzzard business is going from strength to strength and taking on staff. I wish C&C every possible success as it goes on to even greater achievements. It makes me immensely proud to see a local business doing so well and I am delighted to declare their new centre open.”
Commercial Director Charlie Cadman and Operations Director Ruth Crothers were very pleased with the turn out. On behalf of both directors, Ruth said: “We were extremely pleased to have Andrew Selous, MP, declare C&C Training’s new head office and Leighton Buzzard training centre open. The event was made even more enjoyable by the attendance of some of our most long-standing and valued clients. We would like to thank them and everyone else who supported the event and we look forward to welcoming Leighton Buzzard and surrounding businesses to our courses in the future.”
New to the training centre in Leighton Buzzard is a purpose-built asbestos non-licensed removal training area to meet the demand for specialist training in this field.
The Bury St Edmunds centre already boasts the first purpose-built City & Guilds accredited Confined Space training centre of its kind in the East of England Region.

Energy, extraction, manufacturing and construction governing bodies, along with HSE, have come together to form a Noise and Vibration Partnership Group. The industry-led group will work together to increase awareness of the risks associated with noise and vibration in the workplace and promote effective management and control.
The purpose of the group is to reduce the incidence of noise-induced hearing loss and hand-arm vibration syndrome in workers by further raising awareness, through the use of posters and a calendar, of the risks of exposure to noise and vibration in the workplace.
It is hoped the scheme will improve workers’ knowledge concerning exposure to noise and vibration in the workplace and share, promote and encourage good control practices.
The ultimate aim is to bring about a change in attitudes and behaviours to workplace noise and vibration.
Posters are already available for free download. Click here
Are your workers at risk? Give our sister-company C&C Consulting a call to see how we can help you meet the new expectations.

C&C Training has a new course to offer for those working in the food industry.
The HABC Level 4 – HACCP Management of Food Manufacturing will help develop skills for people working at management level in the food and drink production business and is designed to assist in the implementation of a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) System.
Food business operators are required by law, to ensure that food handlers receive appropriate supervision and training in food hygiene in line with their work which should allow them to handle food safely.
In the UK, food handlers do not have to hold a food hygiene certificate to prepare or sell food, although many food businesses would prefer that they did. The necessary skills can be obtained through on-the-job training.
So is there a course we can serve up for you? We also have trainers who can deliver Chartered Institute of Environmental Health accredited courses.
IOSH Working Safely course is now being recognised as an equivalent to a Level 1 Award in health and safety in a construction environment.
This means that delegates who successfully complete Working Safely can apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) green Labourer card once they have also passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operative (touch-screen) test.
IOSH has been working closely with CSCS over the past five months to achieve this recognition, bringing Working Safely in line with CSCS new national occupational standard.
This gives those working in the construction industry two options to qualify for a green card through the courses offered by C&C Training.
Firstly, the CSKills Health and Safety Awareness is still the most popular, and greatly recognised way to achieve the card offered at C&C Training through a public one-day course.
You can also attend an IOSH Working Safely course, however, C&C Training only offer this as a closed course so would be more suited for companies requiring a number of its workforce to attend.
CSCS has stopped issuing green Construction Site Operative (CSO) cards as of July 2014. And now new findings suggest that many site workers carrying out skilled occupations currently hold the wrong type of card for their job. Skilled workers now need to be aware that as of January 31, 2015, any applications for provisional cards (while gaining qualifications) will not be accepted and the necessary qualifications must be achieved before a card will be issued.
CSCS cards are not site passports, health and safety cards or competency cards. A CSCS card certifies the individual has achieved relevant qualifications and training in order to do their job.
All workers on construction sites should hold the correct qualifications and training. Holding the wrong card makes it difficult for contractors to check site workers’ qualifications and training.
As workers’ CSO cards expire, cardholders or their employers have to decide which card they should apply for.

2014 saw a rise in demand for soft skills training and one of the most popular was the Accuracy and Attention to Detail course delivered by trainer Alison Darrington.
Alison’s approach has won her much praise. The course is tailored to each company’s needs and has been combined with Business Report Writing & Business Letter Writing to help individuals cope effectively with their daily tasks.
The course objectives and core foundations are to recognise common errors & what causes us to make them. Also, to analyse personality types and how this influences the mistakes we make and determine the impact of making mistakes and errors. It also teaches how to use tips & techniques to put together a personal development plan. The rest of the course is built around individual customer requirements with some fun theory activities along the way.
Alison recently delivered a course for Kitec – King’s Technology Evaluation Centre. Its Health Technology Assessor, Dr Robert Peter Dowling, PhD, had this to say about the course:
“I was thoroughly impressed with how yesterday panned out. Alison was extremely well prepared and provided plenty of resources, suggestions and material for me to use. The course was completely tailored to me and in no way generic.
“More importantly, her manner and personal skills were superb. She spoke to me rather than at me- something that I hold in high regard. The environment she created yesterday was very open and honest, which in turn gave me confidence in the course subject and therefore allowed me to really engage with the day.
“I will have no hesitation in recommending C&C Training and Alison in the future.”
To meet demand, C&C Training has also scheduled public course dates for 2015.
One of the accreditations which C&C Training is very proud to hold has won a top Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) earned the Queen’s Award for International Trade having grown its overseas market by 151 per cent over the last three years. Its achievement was listed as “outstanding”.
To mark its success, NEBOSH Chief Executive Teresa Budworth and International Development Manager Stuart Naylor, were invited to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Her Majesty the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.
NEBOSH is a registered charity founded in 1979. It provides accredited qualifications in health, safety and environmental management. In 2012 almost 60% of all exam registrations were from overseas compared with 37% two years earlier. Proactive marketing, using product development structured to overseas markets, has led to a growth from 57 accredited course providers in 24 countries to 163 based in 36 countries. It has increased its number of employees by eight to 60.
On its success, Teresa Budworth said: “Winning a Queen’s Award – Britain’s highest accolade for trade success – is a massive achievement for our organisation. It was an absolute honour to represent all of my NEBOSH colleagues at this Queen’s Award celebration at the Palace.”
C&C Training sends its congratulations to NEBOSH and will continue to offer its accredited courses. The National General Certificate and the National Construction Certificate will start at both Leighton Buzzard and Bury St Edmunds centres on the 26 & 28 January respectively. Call your account manager today to sign up.
