A recent publication has revealed that employers in the health and safety industry seek NEBOSH qualifications above all others.
Two thirds of job adverts for health and safety roles specify at least one NEBOSH qualification, with well over a third demanding a NEBOSH National General Certificate.
This City & Guild accredited qualification covers working in confined spaces which have non-standard entries and which, in consequence, makes rescue difficult. Entry may involve complex entry procedures and there will be work-specific controls and rescue arrangements. It will entail the use of self-contained open circuit breathing apparatus, specialist detection equipment and resuscitation equipment. It will require the presence of personnel who have designated responsibilities for dealing with emergencies. BBC Newsnight recently identified CSCS cards were fraudulently obtained via cheating at
an accredited test centre. The undercover investigation identified a member of staff helping candidates complete their CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test (HS&E Test).
The CSCS cards are issued based on applicants having the necessary qualifications for the job they carry out and passing the appropriate CITB HS&E Test.
From August 2015, SWQR cards will be moving to a new improved style card that incorporates some additional security features. Being introduced is a new Holo Image feature and a more pronounced Street Works logo. The layout of the cards will also differ slightly on the front to accommodate more space for forenames and surnames.
All current cards will still be valid until their expiry date, but anyone updating their cards from August will received the new style ID Cards.
For further information on SWQR cards, please visit the SWQR website at www.swqr.org.uk
This Friday, 3 July, is Action Mesothelioma Day and asbestos support groups up and down the country will be holding various events to raise vital funds for the charity Mesothelioma UK.
The charity specialises in providing information, support and improved care and treatment for those suffering from the disease after exposure to asbestos.
Get in touch with your local support group to see how you can help or find the nearest event to you. Visit www.mesothelioma.uk.com for more details.
You can also help to make this disease a thing of the past, make sure your workforce knows what they are looking for and not unnecessarily exposed to asbestos by checking out C&C Training’s courses in Asbestos Awareness (Cat A) and non-licensed Asbestos Works both available in-house or UKATA approved. Refresher courses are also scheduled.
