CSCS has stopped issuing green Construction Site Operative (CSO) cards as of July 2014. And now new findings suggest that many site workers carrying out skilled occupations currently hold the wrong type of card for their job. Skilled workers now need to be aware that as of January 31, 2015, any applications for provisional cards (while gaining qualifications) will not be accepted and the necessary qualifications must be achieved before a card will be issued.
CSCS cards are not site passports, health and safety cards or competency cards. A CSCS card certifies the individual has achieved relevant qualifications and training in order to do their job.
All workers on construction sites should hold the correct qualifications and training. Holding the wrong card makes it difficult for contractors to check site workers’ qualifications and training.
As workers’ CSO cards expire, cardholders or their employers have to decide which card they should apply for.
