Course Description

The Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) reported 269,600 employer-reported respiratory illnesses in 2021, including cancer, lung impairment, diseases, and even death.

This course will examine the relevant **OSHA regulations**, including both employer and employee safety responsibilities, and show how the **Hierarchy of Controls** can minimise or eliminate hazard exposure.

You’ll learn about **Personal Protective Equipment**, including air-purifying respirators, filtration methods, and the importance of **Permissible Exposure Limits**.

The course will describe the main types of **Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus** and air-supplied respirators for use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres, including half- and full-face facepieces, and negative and positive pressure respirators.

On a practical front, we’ll show how to properly fit, check, wear, and use your respirator. You’ll also learn about labelling, change-out schedules, and respirator identification colours. We’ll discuss **Assigned Protection Factors** and **Maximum Use Concentration**, along with their role in identifying respirator protection levels.

Finally, the course will cover the importance of respirator **maintenance**, **inspection**, **cleaning**, **storage**, and the **OSHA recordkeeping standards**.
