Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, delegates will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Understand the industry, dangers, and responsibilities as an operator.
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
- Locate & identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Identify and explain steering, driving & braking controls.
- Identify & maintain PPE appropriate for excavator use.
- Conduct all pre-operational checks according to manufacturer & legislative requirements.
- Safely mount & dismount the machine.
- Start & stop the engine, and move the machine off & stop it safely.
- Configure the machine for travel and maneuver it safely across varying terrains.
- Conduct necessary safety checks at the work area.
- Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and configure it for excavating tasks.
- Carry out excavating tasks such as loading material onto vehicles or containers, reinstating excavation, grading, and leveling the ground.
- Fit & remove attachments safely.
- Carry out all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.

Duration: 1 Day
Delegate Numbers:
Max of 4 delegates per course.
Note: If these tests are combined with another plant option for the same delegates (e.g., Forward or Rear Tipping Dumper, Loader Compressor, Loading Shovel, or Skidsteer Loader), the number of tests can be amended to 3 excavator and 3 other plant options.
Certification:
On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an NPORS card valid for 5 years, after which a refresher course can be undertaken.
