Course Objectives
This course aligns with national occupational standards for low-risk confined space environments, covering both Water and Non-Water industry sectors.
- Water Sector: Tasks involving potable water, sewage treatment, drain and sewer cleaning, working in or near water, or confined spaces prone to surface water flooding.
- Non-Water Sector: Industries such as pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, asbestos removal, vehicle manufacturing and servicing, aeronautical, construction, communications, power, utilities, gas, electrical and mechanical engineering, and some operations in mines, quarries, and tunneling.
Course Content
The course aims to provide the following learning outcomes:
- Preparation for Safe Work in Low-Risk Confined Spaces: Equipment usage, authorisation and information gathering, communication protocols, safety zones, and monitoring equipment.
- Safe Entry and Exit: Focuses on using monitoring and access equipment, safety inspections, procedures for entering and exiting confined spaces, and resolving unsafe activities.
- Safe Use of Equipment and Tools: Equipment and tool checks, types of tools used, and post-use inspections.
- Adhering to Safe Work Procedures: Communication methods, lone working protocols, safe working procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), vigilance, and documentation/reporting.
- Emergency Procedures: Emergency exit protocols, recording and reporting incidents.
- Principles of Working in Low-Risk Confined Spaces: Health, safety, environmental legislation and regulations, confined space types, workplace exposure limits, common emergency causes, roles, and responsibilities.
- Protocols for Low-Risk Confined Spaces: Confined space classifications, working procedures, risk reduction, communication systems, equipment checks, and emergency reporting protocols.
Who Should Attend?
This course is intended for anyone who will be working in a low-risk confined space environment. It includes preparation for safe work, safe entry and exit, equipment usage, following procedures, and handling emergencies.
Participants will complete a practical observation and a short-answer question paper. Certificates are valid for three years.

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance valid for three years.
