Changes to CSCS Green Cards
The old-style green Construction Site Operative (CSO) card will be scrapped from July 1st, 2014.
Instead, a new-style green Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, valid for five years, will only be issued to those who are working in labouring occupations.
CSCS has implemented the changes to provide a scheme for the construction industry whereby employers can determine site workers’ actual training and qualifications from the colour of card they hold.
It was found that many site workers carrying out skilled occupations had simply applied for the green card as the easiest way to work on construction sites, thus making it difficult for employers to use the green cards as a reliable method of checking appropriate skills and training for holders to work safely and effectively.
The card will be available to people working in construction-related occupations not covered by other card categories.
All applicants must pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test and either the Level 1 Award In H&S in a Construction Environment qualification or the CSkills H&S Awareness course.
C&C Training has scheduled one-day CSkills H&S Awareness courses at its centres in Bury St Edmunds and Leighton Buzzard.
