Mental Health

Mental Health is grabbing the headlines frequently, and it is an area that leading organisations such as Willmott Dixon are taking very seriously.C&C were delighted to be given the opportunity to take part in their Mental Health First Aid course which was delivered by their internal training team. The delivery of this course to its employees demonstrates how committed the company is in leading the way to support this serious issue; one that affects not just the construction sector but the whole of the working community.

Our Training Manager, Andy King, was impressed with not only the course but Willmott Dixon’s approach to sharing and supporting other organisations to tackle the issue:

“I would like to thank Willmott Dixon for allowing me to attend the course which was delivered very professionally by Shaun Atkins.  Not only did it show them to be spear heading such work in the construction sector, but it has now had a wider impact by giving C&C Training the ability to provide its own staff with mental health support.”

The Stevenson and Farmer Review, Thriving at Work, referred to during the course is a must-read for any employer looking to provide mental health support to its employees.  It highlights numerous areas employers can focus on to play their part:

  1. Produce, implement and communicate a mental health at work plan
  2. Develop mental health awareness among employees
  3. Encourage open conversations about mental health and the support available when employees are struggling
  4. Provide employees with good working conditions
  5. Promote effective people management
  6. Routinely monitor employee mental health and wellbeing
